Jaya Bachchan was visibly disturbed upon hearing the director’s words, as Abhishek Bachchan revealed during the conversation.
Abhishek Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan are among the most loved mother-son duos in the B-town and their bond has often been seen in public as well. On several occasions, Jaya has admitted to being a strict parent to her children. Recently, Abhishek Bachchan recalled a moment when his mother Jaya was asked to imagine his death for a scene. The veteran star was visibly disturbed upon hearing the director’s words, the actor told ETimes.
Abhishek Bachchan recollected, “I still remember a very personal story. After many years away from the camera, my mother did a film in the 90s called Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa with Govind Nihalani. She came back home and I was an assistant director back then. She looked very disturbed, so I asked her what happened. She said, ‘I had to do a scene where I had to go and identify the body of my son. I didn’t understand.’”
Abhishek revealed the particular instruction Jaya Bachchan was given by the director before she started shooting the scene. Abhishek narrated, “So, Govind ji had given a very specific interesting direction to shoot the scene. He said, ‘Imagine that’s Abhishek lying over there’. This sounds really harsh, but that’s what actors go through. Even if he had not said that, that’s what she would have imagined to make that emotion real. You bring a lot of your personal stuff into your work.”
Following a string of back-to-back flops, including Ghoomer, Dasvi, Bob Biswas, The Big Bull, Abhishek Bachchan recently returned to the theatres with his new release, I Want To Talk. The film marked his first collaboration with Shoojit Sircar and hit the cinemas on November 22. Besides the protagonist, the film also stars Johnny Lever, Banita Sandhu, Jayant Kriplani and Ahilya Bamroo in key roles.
Speaking of Abhishek’s role in the film, he plays a terminally ill father who wishes to reconnect with his daughter. Upon its release, the film was welcomed with positive reviews. Despite the same, it failed to perform well at the box office, earning only Rs 25 lakh on its first day.
