How ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ Became A ‘True Andolan’ Of Students, What To Expect This Year? Explained – News18
Last Updated:
The event organised by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education has been held in Delhi since 2018, where PM Modi interacts with students and addresses their queries. This year has seen record 3 crore registrations so far
More than 3.25 crore students, 20.36 lakh teachers and 5.38 lakh parents have so far registered for this year’s Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC), where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take up students’ queries. Just like the previous year, the eighth edition of PPC is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam, in a town hall format, in the last week of January. Final date is yet to be announced.
The programme is organised by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the union Ministry of Education (MoE).
Applications are being accepted until January 14.
What Is The Event About?
PPC is an annual interactive session hosted by PM Modi where he addresses students’ queries on exam-related problems, tips on how to beat the stress and advises parents and teachers on how to make it easier for students to not feel under pressure during examinations.
It is part of a bigger movement called ‘Exam Warriors’ led by the PM on how to create a stress- free environment for students. The movement is inspired by the book ‘Exam Warriors’ written by PM Modi himself. “Through this book, the Prime Minister has outlined a refreshing approach to education. Knowledge and holistic development of students are given primary importance. The PM urges everyone to put exams in the right perspective, rather than making it a life-and-death situation punctuated by undue stress and pressure,” according to the PPC website.
According to the education ministry, this year has seen 3 crore registrations — the highest ever since the commencement of the event in 2018, when the number of participants was around 22,000. Last year, 2.25 crore students had registered for the PPC against 38 lakh in the previous year. This was more than the double of 15.7 lakh enrollments in 2022. Around 10 lakh students signed up in 2021.
“This remarkable response underscores the growing resonance of the programme as a true ‘Jan Andolan’,” the ministry said in a statement.
Who Can Participate?
The competition is open for students from Classes 6 to 12 across the country. Students may also submit their questions to the Prime Minister under 500 characters. The participants of the main event will be selected through an online competition hosted on the MyGov portal.
While some questions will be taken directly from the participants at the event, others will be selected through the video-recorded messages sent by the students.
Parents and teachers can also participate in the online activities designed exclusively for them. All the participants will receive a Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC) participation certificate.
The ministry will give PPC kits to around 2,500 selected students.
How Did The Programme Expand Over The Years?
The ministry had said last year it was student and teachers’ interaction with the PM that led to an ever-increasing number of registrations.
“Schools start preparing for the event much in advance in terms of helping students frame their queries and submit their entries. Students are most excited to ask questions to the PM and have him speak to them. It has become an annual exercise where students look forward to the session from the beginning of the new year,” said a teacher at a government school in Delhi, who didn’t wish to be named.
Also, students look forward to the answers and advice given by the PM, which is quite helpful for them, the teacher added.
Last year, the MoE directed all departments to make necessary arrangements in the PPC format so that all students from Class 6 onwards across the country can view and hear the telecast.
It was ensured that the telecast reaches even the remotest of the areas, where Internet connectivity is weak. Besides, viewing through Edusat, and other devices such as computers, laptops, smartphones was also arranged. The interaction was also aired live on radio channels.
Besides, every year the session is live-streamed on government websites such as PMO, MoE (including You Tube, MyGov.in and Facebook live).
