‘Will Lead To Sustained Supply Of Assistance In Gaza’: India Welcomes Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Deal – News18
Last Updated:
A ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas was struck to bring the war in Gaza to an end and release hostages under Hamas’ captivity. India has welcomed the development in the Middle East.
India welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas and expressed hope that the latest development would lead to a “safe and sustained supply of humanitarian assistance” to the people of Gaza where over 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in the 15-month-long war.
“We welcome the announcement of the agreement for the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza. We hope this will lead to a safe and sustained supply of humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. We have consistently called for release of all hostages, ceasefire, and return to a path of dialogue and diplomacy,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
The United States and Qatar announced the deal after months of negotiations led by Egyptian and Qatari mediators backed by the US.
The development comes days before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump who has repeatedly warned the Hamas that it will have “hell to pay” if hostages are not released before he takes over the office on January 20.
