Delhi Traffic Police issue advisory due to anticipated protests in central Delhi. Motorists urged to avoid specific routes for smoother travel amidst potential disruptions

Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory on Friday urging motorists to avoid some routes in central Delhi due to anticipated protests in the national capital.

While the advisory didnโ€™t explicitly cite Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), itโ€™s widely understood that the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal could lead to demonstrations affecting traffic flow in the capital.

The advisory highlights key areas such as Krishna Menon Marg, Motilal Nehru Marg, Janpath, and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road, where traffic disruptions are expected. Delhi Traffic Police informed that traffic would be heavy at IP Marg, Vikas Marg, Minto Road, and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg due to a proposed protest by a political party at DDU Marg.

AAP Protests

Many AAP workers and supporters blocked the roads at different places in central Delhi, forcing the police to detain them, which led to massive traffic jams at ITO and Rajghat. Huge traffic congestion was also witnessed at Geeta Colony and Rajghat.

AAP activists and party officials have launched nationwide protests against the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging provocations against their senior political figures. The Delhi police have put up multiple layers of barricading on the roads leading to the offices of BJP, AAP and ED in view of the demonstrations.

Besides some crucial roads, the Delhi Metro ITO station will remain closed to commuters until 1800 hrs, after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation issued a directive in this regard. Central Delhi serves as a critical transportation hub, facilitating commuter movement across the city, particularly for travelers heading from south and west Delhi towards New Delhi Railway Station.
