The Center is preparing to implement the new pattern in CBSE from the next session 2025-26. The first board exam of the new pattern will be held in January 2026 and the second exam of the same session will be held in April 2026.

Students will have the option to appear in both exams. If students wish, they can appear in both or any one of the exams as per their convenience. Students taking both exams will be able to use the result of better performance. The School Education Department of the Ministry has taken opinion on this in online and physical meetings with more than 10 thousand school principals across the country.

The ministry had given 3 options, 2 were rejected
There were 3 options before the education department…

First: Like the semester system of higher education, an examination of half the syllabus should be conducted at the end of each semester of the year, which should be held in September and March.

Second: At present, after the board exams in March-April, supplementary exams are held in July. At that time, instead of the supplementary exams, the complete board exam should be conducted.

third: Just like JEE Mains exams are conducted twice in January and April, similarly the board exams for the entire syllabus should also be conducted once in January and second time in April.

Most principals agree on the third option. The semester system was rejected by most principals. On the second option of examination in July, they argued that it would not help students save a year or get admission for higher education. Principals have been asked to submit their views in writing.
Preparation
Board exams in 2025-26 will be based on old syllabus-books
It will take 2 years for class 10 and 12 books to be available on the new syllabus, as books for classes 8, 10 and 12 will be available only in the session 2026-27.
