Thick fog stopped play in the Cricket World Cup clash between India and New Zealand at Dharamsala on Sunday.

The ODI World Cup match between India and New Zealand was interrupted due to inclement weather at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. The bizarre moment occurred twice during the Indian innings. It was the 15th over when it happened first but it was a short interruption. Meanwhile, the fog returned a few minutes later in the next over when India were 100/2 in 15.4 overs. It led to about a 15-minute halt.

Virat Kohli, on seven, and Shreyas Iyer, on 21, were batting with India needing another 174 runs to win the game and maintain their unbeaten streak.

The cricket fraternity and fans on social media reacted after the play was interrupted.

Lockie Ferguson picked up both the Indian wickets. Earlier, Daryl Mitchell hit a gutsy hundred before India pacer Mohammed Shami sizzled with a five-wicket haul in his first game of the World Cup to restrict New Zealand to 273 all out. Sent into bat, Mitchell (130 off 127 balls) and Rachin Ravindra (75 off 87 balls) rescued New Zealand after a poor start, sharing 159 runs off 152 balls for the third wicket.

Earlier, Daryl Mitchell hit a fighting century before India pacer Mohammed Shami claimed a five-wicket haul in his first game of the ongoing World Cup as New Zealand were bundled out for 273 on Sunday.

Sent into bat, Mitchell (130 off 127 balls) and Rachin Ravindra (75 off 87 balls) rescued New Zealand after a poor start, sharing 159 runs off 152 balls for the third wicket.

Shami (5/54) was the star with the ball for India while the other pacers, Jasprit Bumrah (1/45) and Mohammed Siraj (1/45), also played their part well.

Mitchell, who survived dropped catches on 59 and 69, stood firm despite losing Ravindra and then skipper Tom Latham for five off Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm wrist spinner who took two wickets

India pulled things back significantly by picking up six wickets in the last six overs for only 30 runs. Shami cleaned up Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry off consecutive balls in the 48th over to get close his third five-wicket haul in ODIs.
