A US Senate staff member was fired after he allegedly filmed himself performing gay sex in a congressional hearing room. The staffer later threatened legal action against his firing.

According to The Guardian, the Capitol police have launched an investigation into the matter and one of the two men who appeared in the purported footage was widely named as Aidan Maese-Czeropski, a legislative aide for Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland, on the internet.

Commenting on his firing, Senator Ben Cardinโ€™s office told Politico that โ€œAidan Maese-Czeropski is no longer employed by the US Senate.โ€

The incident sparked a massive backlash as the congressional room, in which two men engaged in a sexual act, carries historical significance for hosting hearing 9/11 attacks as well as James Comey, the former FBI director, gave his testimony on Donald Trump there in 2017.

The then Senate majority leader Tom Daschle received an anthrax-laced letter in that room only in October 2001 just after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Meanwhile, Maese-Czeropski opened up about the incident and his firing in a LinkedIn post and said he was going through a tough time.

Without directly addressing the purported video, Maese-Czeropski wrote, โ€œWhile some of my actions in the past have shown poor judgement, I love my job and would never disrespect my workplace,โ€ he wrote. โ€œAny attempts to characterize my actions otherwise are fabricated and I will be exploring what legal options are available to me in these matters.โ€
