In Pakistan Zoo, Cleaning Staff Spots Half-Eaten Body Inside Tiger's Den – News18

A partially eaten body was discovered in a tiger enclosure at the Sherbagh Zoo in Bahawalpur, located in the eastern province of Punjab, Pakistan. The alarming incident was reported after zoo staff noticed a victim’s shoe inside one of the tiger’s mouths. The enclosure, housing four tigers, became the scene of the gruesome discovery.

Zaheer Alwar, a senior government official in Bahawalpur, revealed to media outlets that while the enclosure was being cleaned, the staff encountered a tiger holding a shoe in its mouth. Suspicion arose, prompting a search that unveiled the partially eaten body within the den. As of now, the victim remains unidentified, with no family stepping forward to claim the remnants of the body.

The Zoo’s official, Ali Usman Bukhari, informed AFP that the facility is temporarily closed as investigations determine how the man gained access to the enclosure. While the autopsy report is pending, evidence gathered from the scene suggests that the victim may have been alive when attacked by the tigers.

Bukhari clarified that the tigers did not venture outside the den to attack the man; he entered their enclosure. If a security lapse is identified, corrective measures will be implemented. On the other hand, Zaheer Alwar suggested that, based on their assessment, the person seemed to be “a lunatic,” as a rational individual would not willingly enter the enclosure. He noted the den’s overall security but acknowledged the presence of stairs behind it, speculating that the person might have jumped from that location. Additionally, Alwar confirmed that all zoo staff have been accounted for about the incident.

Zafarullah, an official from the rescue service 1122 in Bahawalpur, reported that the victim’s legs bore severe mauling, indicating that the body appeared to be several hours old.
