With days leading up to the ICC ODI World Cup, Team India is gearing up to host Australia for an ODI series ahead of the showpiece event. The opening ODI of the three-match series will be played at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on September 22. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced two separate squads for the Australia series. The first group that will feature in the first two ODIs, misses some big names like Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. Youngsters like Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikawad and Prasidh Krishna have been called up to replace the senior players.
Following a roaring comeback in the Asia Cup, opener KL Rahul has been given the responsibility to lead the second-string Indian side in the first two matches. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will serve as Rahul’s deputy. Meanwhile, Australia will look to test their every possible combination in the ODI series. The Aussies will also try to get accustomed to the Indian conditions during this three-match assignment before going into the World Cup.

The wicket at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali is expected to favour batters during the first One-day International between India and Australia. In the last five ODIs played at the venue, the average first innings score was 253 runs. Toss can play a vital role in deciding the fate of the match.
Considering the nature of the surface, the team winning the toss may elect to field first. Despite being known as a batting paradise, pacers can also enjoy bowling with the new ball in Mohali, while spinners can come in handy during the middle overs.
