There was a poster for the sale of Belpatra at the help desk counter located at Gate No. 4 of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, which was later hidden with a white patch.

The administrative decision of selling Belpatra offered to Kashi Puradhipati for five rupees at the counter of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham is again in the headlines. Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust sold the Bel leaves offered on the Shivalinga of Baba Vishwanath to hundreds of devotees. Without informing Trust Chairman Professor Nagendra Pandey, the officials took the decision to sell the bail letters. Envelopes were printed, packing was done and sales started. By updating the software for the sale of Belpatra, publicity was also done. Posters and standee-hoardings were put up at various places inside the premises, from the main gate. Tourists from India and abroad considered it a new arrangement and made purchases, but local devotees protested. Devotees also lodged a complaint saying that the sale of Belpatra was against the temple tradition. The effort to increase the income of the temple increased the anger among the devotees, after which the decision makers came on the back foot.
