NZ vs AUS: Australia's David Warner and New Zealand's Devon Conway Withdrawn from 3rd T20I – News18

David Warner has withdrawn due to adductor soreness from the third and final match of Australia’s Twenty20 series as New Zealand’s Devon Conway has also been withdrawn and replaced by Tim Seifert in Auckland on Sunday.

The 37-year-old Warner, who is retiring from all forms of international cricket after the T20 World Cup in June, did not feature in Friday’s 72-run victory over the Black Caps as the Australians completed back-to-back wins over their hosts.

“Warner will require a brief recovery period, which is not expected to affect his availability for the upcoming Indian Premier League leading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Warner hit 32 runs off 20 balls in the opening win over New Zealand in Wellington on Wednesday, but was booed off the field by the home fans in what was his final appearance in the bilateral international series.

As for, Devon Conway will return home to Wellington to see a hand specialist to ascertain the extent of the injury to his left thumb, sustained while wicket-keeping in Friday’s second T20I.

Seifert, who was ruled out pre-series with a torn-abductor, passed a fitness test in Hamilton this morning and will link up with the New Zealand squad in Auckland ahead of Sunday’s third and final T20I at Eden Park.

Coach Gary Stead confirmed pace-bowler Jacob Duffy would also join the T20 squad as cover for the bowling group due to the tight turn around between matches.

Stead said Rachin Ravindra’s left knee injury, which ruled him out of game two, would be monitored over the next 24 hours before a decision was made on his availability for game three.

As a precaution, Chad Bowes was added to the squad additional batting cover.

Rachin Ravindra just before the start of play in the 2nd T20I with a slight knee injury and Devon Conway suffered a thumb injury keeping wicket and was taken to hospital for X-rays. He returned to the ground when it was found there was no fracture.

Australia won the first match by six wickets and the second by by 72 runs Friday and take an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The third match between the teams is at Eden Park on Sunday.
