NZ vs AUS, 1st Test, Day 3 LIVE Scorecard: Catch all the live score updates from New Zealand vs Australia Day 3 of the first Test at Wellington

NZ vs AUS, 1st Test, Day 3 LIVE: With two days of action done and dusted, it is Australia who hold the aces and find themselves in a strong position. The visitors will want to see off that first hour and then drive home the advantage once it gets easier to bat. With plenty of batting still to come, the Aussies would want to bat New Zealand out of the game here. On the other hand, Tim Southee and Co. will be on the hunt for early wickets on the โ€˜Moving Dayโ€™ as they look to bowl Australia out and keep them to a manageable total. Day 3 will commence at 3.30 am IST (10 pm GMT, the previous day), but you can join us earlier for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!

Glenn Phillips is down for a chat. He says he and Tom Blundell spoke about putting the pressure back onto the bowlers with the pitch offering a lot for the seamers. Adds that Cameron Green and Josh Hazlewood put up a great partnership and took the attack onto them. States that the pitch is still doing a bit and with the crowd behind them it was a good end to the day. Concludes that he will look forward to bowling in those rough marks when he comes on to bowl.

New Zealand would have loved to have another wicket in the day to end the proceedings on a high but it was not to be as Tim Southee dropped a sitter on the last ball. It was an incredibly frustrating start to the day for New Zealand as their plans of bowling Australia out under 300 were thwarted by Cameron Green and Josh Hazlewoodโ€™s resilient batting. In reply, the hosts were rocked early as they lost Tom Latham in the fifth over before a mix-up in the same over, resulted in a duck for Kane Williamson. It went from bad to worse for New Zealand as they lost three more wickets in the second session. In the third session, Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips made their intentions clear straight away and were quick to punish loose deliveries. Just as the two batters were starting to find their feet, Tom Blundell was dismissed. Glenn Phillips continued his rescue act but could not bail his side out of trouble and it was the same case with Matt Henry. New Zealand were bowled out for 179, conceding a first-innings lead of 204 runs. With the ball, Tim Southee lead the way late in the day, accounting for two wickets to help his side end the day on a respectable note.

SESSION SUMMARY โ€“ 150 runs, 30.1 overs and 7 wickets. An eventful end to a pretty engrossing day of Test cricket! Australia started the day on the front foot and they continue to be in charge of the proceedings at the end of the day. Starting the day with the score of 279, Cameron Green and Josh Hazlewood extended their partnership, heaping further pressure on the hosts. Green, in particular, continued his fine form from the previous day, reaching a remarkable 150 with astute support from Hazlewood. Their stand of 116 runs for the 10th wicket, the highest in Tests against New Zealand, took Australia to 383. The visitors were able to take the momentum into their bowling effort as their pacers put on an absolute clinic of seam bowling. After Tea, they were put under pressure as Glenn Phillips and Tom Blundell looked to counter-attack their way out of trouble. Nathan Lyon was brought in to break the flourishing stand and he did the job by cleaning up the Kiwi lower order. As a result, Australia took a massive first-innings lead of 204 runs. With the bat, it was a shaky start for the visitors, losing Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne early. Sent in as the nightwatch man, Nathan Lyon survived a scare on the last ball which meant that Australia went into stumps with only two wickets down and a lead of 217 runs.
