Shahrukh-Gauri had a breakup before marriage: SRK was very controlling; Gauri loved freedom

It was not easy for Shahrukh Khan to marry Gauri. Before marriage, Gauri had broken up with Shahrukh. The reason was that Shahrukh belonged to another religion. Apart from this, Gauri felt that Shahrukh had a lot of power over her.

Because of this his freedom was taken away. Gauri also needed some personal space. She was a woman with independent thoughts. Thinking all this, Gauri broke her relationship with Shahrukh. However, destiny had something else in store. Even after the breakup, Shahrukh pursued Gauri. In the end Gauri also felt that Shahrukh truly loved her. After this they decided to get married.

In an interview given to Filmfare in 1994, Gauri had talked about her breakup. He said- My family was unhappy with Shahrukh being a Muslim. They were not ready to accept Shahrukh. I didn't want to hurt my family, so I decided to break up with them.

Shahrukh and Gauri have been together for the last 33 years.

Gauri had decided to break her relationship with Shahrukh for another reason. Gauri says- Shahrukh was very positive about me. He used to exercise a lot of power over me. I was a free-thinking woman. I liked taking some time for myself. I was very upset with this nature of Shahrukh. That's why I broke up with him.

Shahrukh and Gauri first met in 1984 in a club in Delhi. Shahrukh was 19 years old at that time while Gauri was 14 years old. At first sight, Shahrukh was just staring at Gauri. After this, wherever Gauri went, Shahrukh used to follow her.

In the third meeting, Shahrukh got Gauri's address and home phone number. After this both of them started talking. To ensure that no one gets a clue, Shahrukh and Gauri used to talk in code words. The matter had progressed a lot and in the meantime Shahrukh proposed Gauri.
