26-year-old Anjali Gopnarayan, who was preparing for the UPSC civil services exam in Delhi, committed suicide on July 21. Her body was recovered from her PG. Anjali, a resident of Okaala in Maharashtra, had been preparing for the exam for the last 4 years while living in Delhi.
Anjali was worried about the scams happening in exams and the rent of PG
According to Dainik Bhaskar’s report, she took this step due to the pressure of coaching, exams, failure, scams happening in government exams and PG rent. Anjali was upset due to the lack of basic facilities while preparing for the exam in Delhi. The rent of Anjali’s room was increased from Rs 15,500 to Rs 18,000.
They also refused to return the security deposit after vacating the room. Anjali was in depression due to these continuous incidents. She was asked to vacate the room by 5th August.
There was a discussion between Anjali and the PG owner regarding the rent. Anjali decided to vacate the room after the rent increased.
Anjali wrote a suicide note for her parents, also mentioned depression
A suicide note was found in Anjali’s room. In the note she has written- Mummy, Papa, sorry!! I am tired. The troubles are not ending.. I tried everything possible to come out of depression but nothing is working out. I went to doctors but there was no improvement. I had only one dream – to crack the UPSC exam in the first attempt. Everyone knows that I am troubled since then.
Anjali had written- You both helped me a lot but I will not get peace until I help myself. I am not able to help myself and now I am leaving…
I asked aunty and uncle- can you donate my organs?
I enjoyed a lot at Kiran aunty’s house. Thanks to aunty and uncle..!! You both helped me a lot but I feel that I don’t deserve all this..I couldn’t fulfill my dream. It is very difficult for me to bear all this now..I am leaving on my own will and I am happy now. You can donate my organs.
‘There should be no scams in government exams, rent of PG hostels should be controlled’
Anjali had written in the suicide note- I know this news will become breaking news. I request the government to allow euthanasia. There are many people in our country who do not want to live. Please curb the scams happening in government exams and provide employment to people. Control the rent of PG and hostels. These people are looting money from students, but not everyone has that much money to pay them. Please all of you do not cry too much…death has to come.
According to a PTI report, Anjali’s family said that someone was harassing her and that is why she was depressed. This case is being investigated by Deputy Commissioner of Police Central – Harsh Vardhan.
