Danny Denzongpa, one of the famous villains of Hindi cinema, has turned 76 years old. Along with Hindi, he has also acted in Nepali, Tamil, Telugu and Hollywood films. He played characters like Kancha Cheena, Bakhtawar, Khudabaksh on screen and became popular among the audience.

Born in Sikkim, Danny has made a special place for himself in Bollywood. Like other strugglers, his early days were spent roaming around studios and producers' offices and nights wherever he could find space.

Danny started his film career with the 1971 film 'Mere Apne'. Danny, famous for villainy, played a positive character in his debut film. In 1973, he made headlines for the first time by playing a negative character in BR Chopra's film 'Dhundh'. Danny has done about 190 films.

He was offered the role of Gabbar Singh in the blockbuster film 'Sholay'. But he refused to do this role because he lacked dates. Today on his birthday, let us know some interesting facts related to his life…

Danny was born on 25 February 1948 in Sikkim. Danny's real name is Tshering Pentso. He was educated at Birla Vidya Mandir and St. Joseph's College, Darjeeling. The name Danny was given to him by Jaya Bhaduri when both were batchmates in FTII. No one in Danny's family was associated with films but Danny was attracted to the film world.

This was the reason why he decided to leave Sikkim and move to Mumbai but before that he took admission in FTII to learn acting. After completing the course, Danny came to Mumbai to struggle.

One day, Danny came to know that the film director was looking for some fresh faces for Mohan Kumar's film 'Aap Aaye Bahar Aayi'. Danny went to meet him at his bungalow in Juhu, Mumbai. There were many guards from Sikkim at the bungalow. He had a good talk with Danny after which he allowed Danny inside the bungalow.

When Danny went inside, Mohan Kumar met him. Danny expressed his desire to become an actor. Hearing this, Mohan Kumar started laughing loudly.

He told Danny, there is a job as a guard in my bungalow, you will do it. Danny felt very bad about this, after which he told Mohan Kumar, one day I will become such a big star that I will have a bungalow next to your bungalow. These words of Danny later proved to be true. After achieving success, he gave a befitting reply to Mohan Kumar by building his own bungalow next to his bungalow.

Played positive role in first film

Danny started his film career with the 1971 film 'Mere Apne'. Danny played a positive character in this film. In 1973, he caught everyone's attention by playing a negative character for the first time in BR Chopra's film 'Dhundh'.

Gabbar's role in 'Sholay' was rejected

Danny was offered the role of Gabbar Singh in the 1975 blockbuster film 'Sholay'. But he refused to do this role.

Actually, when Sholay director Ramesh Sippy offered him the film, he had already signed Firoz Khan's film 'Dharmatma'.

Firoz Khan had taken permission to shoot in Afghanistan, so the shooting could not be postponed. In such a situation, due to lack of dates, he had to reject the role of Gabbar.

Danny had said about this in an interview, 'I had no regrets in saying no to the role of Gabbar. That's because after 'Sholay', Amjad Khan's price had increased and due to this, my fees also increased automatically.

Danny has worked in about 190 films in his career. Her work in the 2003 film 'Seven Years in Tibet' with Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt was also highly praised.
