Airplane food has long held a negative reputation for being unappetising and stale. Now, a travel vlogger recently shared a video in which he compared the Indian food on a flight and US flight food. Travel vlogger Karl Rock, compared these meals when he travelled on a round trip in a premium economy flight from New Delhi to New York with American Airlines. In this video, he showed the dinner and breakfast served to him when he flew from New Delhi to New York and said that he was able to enjoy the freshly prepared meals.

He then showed the dinner and breakfast he was served when he flew out of New York. He noted that the American food was unappetising and made of “rubbery processed chicken, boring rice, and just flavourless slop.” He further described the meal as “American jail food.”

This video gathered over 4,000 likes and stirred a discussion on aeroplane food. Commenting on this video an Instagram user wrote, “Jail food is exactly right! Emirates serves the best food IMO, but I haven’t used Singapore Airlines yet.” Another person wrote, “It’s good to see Indian airlines strive for quality meals, where U.S & UK flights clearly budget and stick to processed food.” An Instagram user shared, “I was traveling to Auckland from Singapore, by Singapore airlines,,,I think their food was pretty decent in economy, service was okish thought as they didn’t allow me more beer.”

Another person commented, “We just recently flew Emirates Washington DC to Dubai then Dubai to Delhi. The food on the way to book locations was superior! Even better than most restaurant food in the US. We flew economy and even the plane was roomy and nice. Sadly, our return flight from Dubai to Washington DC the food was inedible and not even warm and horrible tasting. A few hours after eating I threw up everything much to the disgust of my fellow travellers (our family of 5).”

Back in January 2023, a woman named Sarvapriya Sangwan claimed that she found small stones in the meals provided by Air India Flight 215.

While sharing the incriminating photos, she tagged Air India and wrote, ”You don’t need resources and money to ensure stone-free food Air India. This is what I received in my food served on flight AI 215 today. Crew member, Ms Jadon was informed. This kind of negligence is unacceptable.” After her post went viral, the Air India customer support team reached out to her in the comments.
