Amitabh Bachchan, one of the legendary actors in Bollywood, was often called Angry Young Man after his movie Zanjeer, which hit the theatres in 1973. The Big B of Bollywood is also known for his sense of humour. He often used to pull pranks with co-stars and tried to have fun during shooting.
During the shooting for his movie Satte Pe Satta, Big B, along with his co-actor Sachin Pilgaonkar, pranked Jaya Bachchan. They called her at 2:30 a.m., and Sachin Pilgaonkar mimicked a girl’s voice.
Satte Pe Satta movie was directed by Raj N Sippy and starred Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Amjad Khan in lead roles. The movie was released in 1982 and was a commercial success at the box office. Now, 41 years after its release, Sachin Pilgaonkar who played the supporting role in the movie shared a funny incident from the film’s shoot in an interview, a few months back. Sachin shared that the shooting of Satte Pe Satta was like a picnic for them. He recalled that Amitabh Bachchan was of introverted nature during that time and it took time for him to become part of their mischievous gang. He also called him unpredictable.
After getting comfortable with the team, Amitabh Bachchan used to spend a lot of time with them after the shoot. Sachin addressed an incident that took place in Kashmir. During the shoot in Kashmir, Amitabh Bachchan used to spend late nights in the hotel with Sachin and others. Jaya Bachchan used to wonder where Big B is. This led the actor to devise a prank on his wife. Sachin Pilgaonkar once called Jaya Bachchan in a girl’s voice and said, “Amit ji humaare paas hain (Amitji is with me).” Knowing Sachin and his pranks, Jaya Bachchan understood the prank and replied, “Ok, rakho unko apne paas hi (Ok, keep him with you only).”
Sachin Pilgaonkar also praised Amitabh Bachchan’s professionalism during Satte Pe Satta’s filming. He used to spend late nights in the hotel with friends but always reached the location of the shoot before time.
