BCCI to felicitate World Cup wininng captains in Ahmedabad

The World Cup winning captains will be honoured and facilitated with a special blazer. The ceremony will take place during the innings break on Sunday.

The Narendra Modi Stadium is set to host the grand finale of the ICC World Cup 2023, featuring hosts India and 5-time champions Australia. The action will get underway on November 19 and the fans are excited to witness the most electrifying contest of the tournament in Ahmedabad. Making the event more special, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to felicitate the World Cup-winning captains on Sunday.

According to India Today, the World Cup-winning captains will be honoured and facilitated with a special blazer. The ceremony will take place during the innings break on Sunday.

The likes of MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev, Ricky Ponting, Clive Lloyd, Allan Border, Eoin Morgan and Arjuna Ranatunga will be presented with special blazers at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The felicitation ceremony will also feature short clips of the captains guiding their sides to World Cup glory.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be watching the World Cup final match at the ‘Narendra Modi Stadium’ in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

“Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi and Deputy Prime Minister of Australia as well as dignitaries including Central Government Ministers and Chief Ministers of other states are also expected to come to Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium to watch this final match,” the Gujarat CM posted on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence during the final on Sunday, a grand air show by the Indian Air Force, two former Cup-winning captains Kapil and Dhoni watching from the stands with a bevvy of who’s who from the world of entertainment and politics in attendance, the grandeur will be unmatched.

There will be an audience too, at least 1.30 lakh, who wouldn’t want to settle for anything less than a global crown and another 1.39 billion sitting in their homes.

Team India has been the only undefeated side in the ongoing tournament, registering 10 straight wins – their best run ever in the history of ODI World Cups. Australia, on the other hand, started with back-to-back losses before registering 8 wins on the trot. In fact, India kickstarted their campaign against the mighty Aussies in Chennai with a 6 win.
