YashoBhoomi: All About India’s Largest Convention Centre To Be Inaugurated By PM Modi – News18

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), named YashoBhoomi, in Delhi’s Dwarka on Sunday. PM Modi will also inaugurate the two-kilometre extension of the Airport Express line from Dwarka Sector 21 to a new station YashoBhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.

The inauguration comes on the 73rd birthday of PM Modi which falls on September 17. The convention centre has been created to accommodate India’s anticipated growth into the third-largest economy during the next two decades.

All About YashoBhoomi

YashoBhoomi is being built in two phases and is located 10 km from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The total project area of the ‘state-of-the-art’ facility is over 8.9 lakh square meter and the total built up area is more than 1.8 lakh square meter.

The main auditorium comprises 15 convention rooms including the main auditorium, the grand ballroom and 13 meeting rooms with a total capacity of holding 11,000 delegates. It will be one of the world’s largest MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) facilities.

The main attraction of this multi-purpose convention centre is the auditorium, which is the largest in the country, equipped with a seating capacity of around 6,000 guests.

The main auditorium is equipped with cutting-edge automatic seating systems, allowing for multiple seating arrangements, whether a flat floor or tiered seating resembling an auditorium.

The design prioritises visitor comfort and experience, incorporating wooden floors and acoustic wall panels. The Convention Centre also has the largest LED media facade in the country.

Why is YashoBhoomi Special?

YashoBhoomi will overtake Bharat Mandapam in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan, which was the venue of G20 Summit, as the biggest convention centre in the country. The Bharat Mandapam was inaugurated by PM Modi on July 26 and handed over to the Ministry of External Affairs for the summit.

The auditorium has one of the most innovative automated seating systems which allows the floor to be a flat floor or an auditorium style tiered seating for different seating configurations. It is also equipped with high-tech security provisions to ensure safety for the visitors.

The underground car parking facility for over 3,000 cars is also equipped with more than 100 electric charging points.

It also consists of materials and objects inspired from Indian culture in the form of terrazzo floors with brass inlay representing rangolis patterns, suspended sound absorbent metal cylinders, lit up patterned walls.

There will be several other facilities including media rooms, VVIP lounges, cloakrooms, visitor information centres, and ticketing.

YashoBhoomi also shows a strong commitment to sustainability by having a wastewater treatment system with 100% wastewater reuse, rainwater collection, rooftop solar panels.

CP Kukreja Architects, who have designed the exhibition complex, said that the indoor arena will be built with a retractable roof, which will be the first in the country, a report in Times of India said. The multipurpose indoor arena will be around eight times the size of a tennis court at Wimbledon.
