Lakhimpur Kheri: Before Diwali, the message of celebrating pollution-free Diwali has started resonating in Lakhimpur Kheri district. On the initiative of DM Durga Shakti Nagpal, on Monday, under the direction of BSA Praveen Tiwari, lakhs of children of council schools of the district celebrated cracker-free Diwali.

Under this campaign, students of 3106 council schools and 16 Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Schools of the district along with their teachers took out an awareness rally. Children went from village to village carrying placards to make people aware about the harm caused by the smoke of firecrackers.
DM Durga Shakti Nagpal said that Diwali is a festival of happiness in our lives, and we can keep our environment safe by celebrating it in a pollution-free manner. On Tuesday, essay, painting and speech competitions will be organized in all the schools of the district on the theme of pollution-free Diwali, and the winning students will be felicitated.
Focus on pollution due to firecrackers, children took pledge Teachers explained to the children that smoke from firecrackers is harmful for the elderly and children. Firecrackers cause respiratory problems, eye irritation, lack of oxygen and also pose a danger to birds. The children took a pledge that this time they will celebrate Diwali by lighting lamps, distributing sweets and planting trees. BSA Praveen Tiwari said that this initiative is a positive step towards both environment and health.
