'Congratulations to All Players & Teams': BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah After WPL 2024 Mini-Auctions – News18

The BCCI secretary congratulated all the players and franchises after a successful auction for the second edition of the Women’s Premier League which was held in Mumbai.

The mini-auction for the second edition of the Womenโ€™s Premier League is now complete with a selection of players being picked up by the various franchises in the WPL ahead of the second season which will take place in 2024.

Among the notable players are the likes of Vrinda Dinesh and Kashvee Gautam who are the uncapped players to fetch a massive price tag of 1.3 crores and 2 crores respectively.

The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and President of the Asian Cricket Council posted on his official social media handles congratulating the several players who were picked up by the various franchises.

The BCCI secretary also made a special mention of the two uncapped players as well. He confirmed that a total of 12.75 crores were spent to sign over 30 players of which five players fetched a price tag of over 1 crore as well.

Annabel Sutherland along with Kashvee Gautam were the two most expensive buys in the second edition of the auction with both players fetching a price tag of 2 crores. Annabel went to the Delhi Capitals while Kashvee is now with the Gujarat Giants.

The defending champions, Mumbai Indians managed to bolster their side with the addition of the experienced South African pacer, Shabnim Ismail to their squad for 1.2 crores.

The BCCI secretary had also revealed that the second edition of the WPL in 2024 will only be played in one state primarily due to logistical reasons. The previous edition of the WPL was held on several grounds across Mumbai.

The second edition of the WPL is being planned to be held sometime around the second or third week of February.

Many will be expecting the various players to don their franchisesโ€™ jersey as the first season of the WPL was a massive hit with fans wanting more.
