India Consolidate Top Spot in World Test Championship Standings With Win Over England – News18

India defeated England by an innings and 64 runs in the fifth and final Test to get a 4-1 series win and consolidate their position at the top of the WTC standings.

India, who have qualified for two back World Test Championship (WTC) finals and lost on both occasions, further consolidated their position at the top of the WTC points table with an innings and 64-run win over over England.

The win in the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala helped them gain 12 more crucial WTC points, taking their tally to 74. This has lifted their point percentage from 64.58 to 68.51.

For England, a fourth straight loss in India keeps them in the eighth place in the standings, witnessing a drop in their point percentage, down to 17.5 from 19.44 previously.

Ahead of the final game of their long tour, Stokes had dismissed theories of the departure lounge syndrome but with the way his batters performed, it seemed they were in a hurry to get back home.

The attack-at-all-costs approach clearly did not work for them in India and the debacle has given them plenty to ponder before the start of the English summer.

For India, the series was a remarkable success considering they had the likes of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami unavailable throughout as youngsters starred in their stead.
